Arrow Films.
Yeah, I was surprised this passed uncut too - particularly the urination scene.

Probably due to it being 'art', I guess!

Caligula was passed uncut because it didn't contain anything that was in breach of current UK laws.

I Spit on Your Grave doesn't contain anything that is in breach of UK laws but that hasn't stopped the BBFC cutting three minutes from it!

That's because they're not objective, if it doesn't break any law, the only other reason can be that it offends the examiners personally and so it gets cut. In which case, they shouldn't be examining films.

It was in breach of the law commonly referred to as the VRA.

I don't see how as there is nothing in I Spit on Your Grave that is worse than in Irreversible and the BBFC didn't cut that. It seems that they apply the Video Recording Act quite indiscriminately to suit their own guidelines.

There's a huge difference between Irreversible and I Spit on your Grave as far as the BBFC and the appliance of the "harm" test is concerned. The rape in the former although extremely brutal contains no nudity. It's filmed in a single shot with the camera staying low on the ground. There are no lingering close ups. No sexual images.

Like it or not the BBFC see I Spit as a film that is merely exploiting rape against women that's the real reason why they continue to cut it, that along with the huge amount of nudity means it's going to be cut for a long time to come.

Personally I just can't see what they could cut in Irreversible. They won't cut a scene simply because it is brutal. I myself thought the scene was quite acceptable.

I asked the BBFC again the other day why I Spit was still a problem (not that I didn't know) and they explained quite clearly.

This is where I see the BBFC's approach as misguided and flawed. When you talk about harm you are talking about something psychological and triggering something that is already there. There is often more to what isn't seen and without question, the rape scene in Irreversible is very brutal and drawn out. I have my serious doubts that, if as the BBFC believe, there are people out there who are triggered by brutal sexual violence, they wouldn't be triggered by Irreversible.
