3 From Hell (2019)

A decade on from events in The Devil's Rejects (2005) the freshly escaped from prison Otis Firefly (Bill Moseley) and Richard Brake's Winslow 'Foxy' Coltrane go all Bogart in Desperate Hours on prison warden Jeff Daniel Phillips at his family home in a bid to get Baby (Sheri Moon) released from Death Row, before ultimately holing up south of the border where the three have to take on a Mexican drug cartel out for revenge following the Firefly clan's killing of former boss Danny Trejo in the earlier film.

Sadly due to Sid Haig's poor health (He passed away just after the film's release) his character Captain Spaulding was written out after only a single scene which was poignant in a way only murderous, foul mouthed washed up clowns can be. However Brake makes for an excellent addition to the Firefly clan as Otis' half brother especially in his banter with Moseley. However this is Sheri Moon Zombie's film all the way. She produces a stunning performance. Anyone who thought Baby was a depraved lunatic previously ain't seen nothing yet as Moon steals the film in each and every scene.

As with the previous film this pushes the boundaries of celluloid violence and has some genuine sadism on show and is a hell of a lot nastier and grislier than your usual cinematic horror. I'm not sure how they manage it but together (as with the two previous films) creator Rob Zombie and actors Moseley, Moon and Brake somehow make three of the most repulsive and terrifying individuals into very cool anti-heroes that electrify the screen and you can't help but root for.

Hope this is ok to post this, thought you horror fiends might find it interesting.

A short film made by my nephew Anthony, shot on an old iphone mostly at night with no additional lighting.

Made with no budget but a can do attitude, Anthony shot, edited, created the music and even appears as the vampires victim.

Concentrating on the isolation and dislocation from society of the vampire, who must remain cool, focused and detached to be able to survive, played by Ant's girlfriend Iladya.

I was quite impressed by the low key mood and the little details like the mirror and eye change.
It was an experiment to see what could be achieved with no money.

If you watch it and like it please give it a like on the Youtube page.

M. Butterlfy. 1993.

Jeremy Irons teams up with David Cronenberg for a second time since they made Dead Ringers and brings a compelling drama set in 1960s China. Irons plays a married French Diplomat who sees the opera M.Butterfly and falls for the lead singer unbeknown to him what can change for his marriage, diplomat status, career and future. Everyone gives out their best performance in this even John Lone who seems to be hiding something that all gets revealed and manages to twists everything around in but then also karma seems to come knocking on the door. Certainly a interesting view.

Kickboxer. 1989.

Dennis Alexio is the U.S. kickboxing champion and ready to take on anyone and travels to Thailand he faces opponent Tong Po and is crippled. Jean Claude wants revenge and is trained in the old form of Muay Thai and vows revenge. When Van Damme was in his prime and able to dance in a pub drunkingly for a laugh, he was able to choreograph the fight scenes in this and is able to go the length of training aswell as taking a beating or two.

Best Of The Best 2. 1993.

Travis, Tommy and Alex return for this as all good friends who open their own karate school, Travis fights illegally in a Coliseum battle and is killed prompting Alex and Tommy to vow revenge and train with drunk Sonny Landham. Good solid sequel with Phillip Rhee going against Ralf Moeller. Only downside to this is whenever Eric Roberts begins to fight the film seems to cut back to Phillip kicking ass, bad editing or someone trying to hog the limelight.

This is one of the few David Cronenberg films I haven't seen (the others are Fast Company and Crimes of the Future) and one I keep consider buying. It sounds like a really interesting film and I would undoubtedly enjoy it, so I'm not sure why I don't already own it.

It is something different from Cronenberg, he does try to add in violence especially during a riot scene but then remembers he isn't doing a horror. It is a entertaining watch.

Air Force One. 1997.

Harrison Ford is the President in this one where after attending a formal dinner in Russia and never backing down to a terrorist threat, his plane is hijacked in mid air by Gary Oldman who wants a a Russian General released from prison if not he will execute the Pr esident's staff on board.

Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman manage to make it work as enemies on the plane while Dean Stockwell and Glen Close battle it out on the ground as to what decisions to make for keeping the president alive and mount up the tensions. Wolfgang Petersen creates two different scenarios for one film and keeps going with it and just when you think it's going to be alright and happy ending, he throws in a curveball for safe measures. I forgot how good this one really is.

SIEGE OF THE SAXONS (1963)

King Arthur is betrayed and killed in a plot to take over the throne. His Daughter Katherine manages to escape with help with a rogue from the woods and together they try to track down Merlin and stop the Saxons taking over Camelot.

A mixture of stories here involving the Arthur legend and Robin hood type antics.
Plenty going on here but unfortunately if you are familiar with the 1954 Alan Ladd movie THE BLACK KNIGHT, you will find that a lot of the actual siege at the end of this movie borrows a lot of action scenes from that movie, even our hero puts on the same suit of armour that Ladd used. You also have believe that Janette Scott can pass as a young boy, when to disguise herself she has to cut her hair.
Still, it's an enjoyable and colourful movie shot at Bray Studios.
