I enjoy a Bic Mac but ten minutes later i wouldn't know i'd had one. Barely any nutritional value.

Its only taken me six years to finally sit down and watch this one so before i give my views on the film let me explain why i have put this off for so long. This is the little personal section this may come across sad and immature but this is my truth and if you do not care for the reasons skip ahead no one will know . In my everyday life i have always felt worthless and irrelevant and i always felt weak for suffering with depression since i was a kid but then i discovered Black Metal and more than anything i had ever heard before it made me feel strong and it gave me the belief that i was worth something no matter how shit thing get when i listen to Mayhem Darkthrone Emperor Immortal Burzum Gorgoroth Taake and Satyricon i feel alive again. So i am very protective of the genre and yes there is a lot of ridiculous things that went on within the scene but i still want it to be taken seriously and not to be seen as a joke. I didnt want to see the whole thing get exploited or trivialized. Also these were people that were really shrouded in mystery and i looked at them like special people but in reality the music aside these were just teenagers who allowed themselves to get to carried away and trying to impress each other and maybe i didnt want to see them like that. So anyway on to the film

LORDS OF CHAOS

First we are introduced to Euronymous the founder of Mayhem and his mission to create the most evil music ever created but also to create a scene of hate and fear with him as the leader of this small tight knit group. The film takes us through the introduction of Death and the all too soon death of Dead and the introduction of Varg were the downfall of Euronymous begins. Its quite sad that Euronymous just wanted to create something special but he just happened to run into a maniac who was willing to go to any lengths to firstly fit in but then completely take over. The whole thing with Dead and the cover of Dawn of the Black Hearts showed a darker side to Euronymous who himself got caught up in his own persona but he quickly realized he created a monster that he couldn't no longer control.

The whole film was really tastefully done it really showed the scene in the serious light i was hoping that it would so i was really happy with that i thought there was going to be more Mayhem stuff but it was mainly focused in the black circle and the rivalry between Varg and Euronymous. The cinematography is amazing at certain points showing just how beautiful Norway really is. There are some really tough parts to watch too especially the suicide of Dead its so brutal and it pulls no punches this film really doesn't glorify suicide or death its grim and visceral but it makes you watch and shows you exactly how horrendous these acts are the scenes are long with plenty of close ups i was actually surprised at just how graphic it really was.

The one thing i didnt like with Euronymous death the whole short hair and the shirt and trackpants was actually taken from a re-enactment not the actual crime scene a stupid detail but it still annoyed me a little. Well look you didnt expect me to go without calling out at least one thing now did you .

I did get a chuckle when i saw Fenriz in any of his scenes just in the background holding a beer looks like nothing has changed there so .

I was wrong to put this off for so long it was enjoyable for sure and like it says at the start based on truth....Lies bare that in mind

I'm pleased you finally watched and enjoyed the film, Nordy. Is it something you'd pick up on Blu now? I think the extras are actually pretty good with some excellent interviews.

I loved how Varg did't want to play live as it meant 'selling out'. He should have joined Darkthrone instead.

I do think it's worth owning I'll certainly be picking up a copy. Funny you should mention Darkthrone Varg always speaks highly of Fenriz one of the only people from the scene he seems to but has mentioned he should stop drinking . Cause murder arson homophobia racism lying being full of shit is no where near as bad as drinking

The Hole (2009)

Two brothers and their next door neighbour discover a hole on the cellar of the house they've just moved into. A hole boarded and padlocked by the previous owner.

Directed by Joe Dante this is firmly in the family friendly fantasy horror genre he pretty much made his own with the likes of Gremlins, Explorers, The Burbs and Matinee. A bright and breezy affair with not too scary examples of creepy clowns, demons and ghosts (very well done) and a trio of young actors - Chris Massoglia, Nathan Gamble and Haley Bennett - you can get behind and sympathise with plus Teri Polo and Bruce Dern as the main grown up leads, make this appealing viewing but it does fall slightly flat in it's third quarter until we get to the offbeat and surreal nightmarish finale.

All in all, this eighties style Stephen King-esq throwback was decent but you'd never choose it over Gremlins.

The Blu-ray image is superb and the fact it was shot for the 3D market never too intrusive.

The Last Broadcast (1998)

Found footage film based around the hosts of an internet tv show who were murdered by their guide whilst searching for evidence of the Jersey Devil in the New Jersey Pine Barrens.

Unutterable shite masquerading as a pseudo-documentary. Kind of begins okay and then they start repeating everything and it became monotonous.

I took this to Cex today and got back in credit the same as i paid for it a couple of months ago. That's the only good thing about this film.

I was curious about it too. One of those found footage films that gained a reputation in the early days of dvd.

The Blair Witch Project is on a different plane to this.

thief-1981-770x433.jpg

After a stretch on the inside Frank is determined to go straight running two successful businesses a car dealership and a bar but Frank is good at one thing more than anything and that stealing diamonds and the pull is always there to return to his old ways so whats one more big job going to hurt....its gonna hurt quite a bit actually. Franks ultimate plan is to live the American dream the wife the kids the big house away from the city so with the promise of realizing his dream much sooner he takes a job with big time player but once you commit to working with these people your trapped for life or so they think because Frank ain't no bum.

Thief is really is something else James Caan is superb he is a straight shooter who speaks his mind and isnt afraid to take action when its called for Frank is nobodies fool he has a plan and no one is going to stop him. The film is so beautiful to watch the rain soaked neon streets set the tone perfectly so many beautiful shot a favorite of mine hands down was of Frank walking through the car dealership at night and the reflections on the paintwork off the cars on the lot its almost blinding its just a stunning scene. Visually beautiful great storytelling exciting and intense heists the whole film oozes cool no it absolutely leaks cool . The soundtrack is also a big player performed by Tangerine Dream its sublime i have been listening to it all week. I think Nicolas Winding Refn loves this one too

9/10

Failed medical student Jeffery has an unhealthy obsession with creating life in his makeshift lab in his garage but he lacks the ability to generate enough electricity to complete his project also there is the little problem of obtaining a body but at his future father in laws birthday bash Jeffery gets a 4 stroke of luck when his fiance is killed in a tragic accident. Which a major electrical storm coming in the next few days Jeffery must gather the perfect body parts to go with the head of his fiance that he manages to save.

I always have the best time with Frankenhooker its a blast from start to hilarious finish. Exploding prostitutes lots of boobs crazy characters medical abominations vibrant colors that pop right out of the TV and as i said that ending his priceless i love it talk about a worthwhile pay off . For me this falls into the same bracket as Toxic Avenger and Vamp just really fun films that make me feel all warm inside. Patty Mullen is hilarious as Elizabeth the faces she pulls and just shouting WANNA DATE , LOOKIN FOR SOME ACTION , WANT SOME COMPANY , GOT ANY MONEY i just laugh every single time. James Lorinz is also great in this just like in Street Trash his accent and delivery are comedy gold for me just comes across like an adorable sarcastic asshole

Definitely a go to film when you want a good stupid laugh.
