Watched a double bill of Ruggero Deodato's Phantom of Death (1988) and Lamberto Bava's Macabre (1980) last night. Phantom of Death was one of those films I have been wanting to see ever since I discovered that it was directed by the legendary Ruggero Deodato (Cannibal Holocaust) and it didn't disappoint! However it was Macabre that stole the show that evening! Directed by Lamberto Bava (Demons, A Blade in the Dark) Macabre featured everything I love about italian cinema; the gothic atmosphere, the dubbing, the humour, a creepy child and of course a perfect mix of sex and violence that doesn't border on the tasteless. If you have not yet seen this ferocious debut then I suggest you go and hunt yourself a copy! A great night overall!

What films have you seen recently?
Finally watched AVATAR....disappointed and expected to be so anyway I thought the film was overhyped and overrated, yes the sfx were excellent especially in a Cameron film, but the whole film dragged and I won't be seeing it again - it was boring |

Alan Clarke's The Firm. - Not as good as Made In Britain or Scum but it was very good.

Heartstopper - low budget fare with Robert Englund which is incompetantly put together yet strangely endearing because of it. Unthinkable. Thriller with Michael Sheen and Samuel L Jackson. On the fence about it. Will let it sink in my brain for now. My Son, My Son, what have ye done. I love Werner Herzog so I 'got' it because its one of his. Far from being as good as my favourite Herzogs, but still worth watching if your a fan. |

A friend told be about a really cool serise of you tube videos called Marble Hornets. Its a load of shot clips of supposedly unsued film rush tapes that has a lot of weird stuff involving a Tall Man. I'm finding it pretty creepy, definitely worth a look. YouTube - MarbleHornets's Channel |

Have just seen Legion one of those can't make up it's mind if it wants to be an action or mythological type film so does both badly; but did have a couple of good effects with the granny and ice cream salesman. Also John Carpenter's The Thing. This was the first time I have seen this and quite liked it, some very good effects for the time the film was made, well paced and quite tense. Now about to delve into Bava's A Bay Of Blood My first arrow release and it looks good...
