Is it okay to post non horror films here? Horror is my favourite genre, but lately I am into Japanese cinema from the 40's and 50's. Anyway I watched: Sansho The Bailiff by Mizoguchi (1954) An epic. A rather simple and still recognisable story about a family that is torn apart by slave traders. Mizoguchi's cinematography is astounding, long shots that really pulls you into the story. It has some really heartbreaking moments but without the melodramatic stuff that ruins most other (modern) films for me. You know, the violins and staring at the horizon. |
