The Lost Boys...
Well I am gonna eat my word's here, after a couple of decades dismissing The Lost Boys as a sort of vampire Goonies,I finally got around to re-watching it...And to my surprise I rather enjoyed, after all this time...And while it is definitely not as good as Fright Night,it certainly a lot better than I remembered or gave credit for...For a start I rather enjoyed Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander as the Frog Brothers,I loved the fact these comic book nerds, took themselves so seriously...And what particularly struck me this time was Greg Cannoms special make-up effects, especially the exploding vampire at the end... Mind you Greg seem to be a specialist in vampires,he worked on Vamp, Fright Night 2 and Coppola's Dracula...Any how I really enjoyed this 80s vamp movie,Keifer Sutherland made a great baddie, flouncing around with his band of 80s metal wannabe sidekicks which include Alex Winter, after his ground breaking experience in Death Wish 3, but before Bill and Ted...Also Bernard Hughes as Grandpa has one of the best lines in movie ending history...All in all a pleasant surprise,so I take it all back....

Lady in a Cage*(1964)...
Labelled as hag horror,(a horrible term itself) this turned out to be a rather disappointing and in some cases pretentious and meandering piece of melodrama, about a woman, played by Olivia De Havilland stuck in her lift at home, while her 30 year old son ( who has never married, hint hint,he just might be gay???) is away for the weekend...This could of been a great bit of exploitative trashy cinema, but unfortunately it hammers home it's social commentary with a giant sized wrecking Ball...James Caan,is very young here,as the leader of a bunch of teenage hooligans who break into Havilland house after following a tramp played by Jeff Corey, who had already robbed the place of its toaster.... Coming across as an overlong Twilight Zone episode,( in fact it probably would of worked better as a shorter length TV episode)...Over wrought with melodramatic dialogue that tries to be some sort of commentary on the social ills of the time, unfortunately it comes across as Just laughable today, and to be honest it probably was back then as well.Still a great idea, just poorly executed, what was needed was Shelley Winters battering Bette Davis with a baseball bat,now that's hag horror...

Based on the Tom Clancy novel and set within 1984 during Russians playing war games, this is quite a intense thriller built up with a Captain who is keeping secrets from part his crew and analyst who seems to think the same as the Captain to defect. Sean Connery plays Ramius with his normal speaking voice even though he does speak the Russian native language at the start and Alec Baldwin as Jack Ryan who seems to be second guessing in a game of chess. John McTiernan done a decent directing job with this and nice cinematography.

I love the way that at the start of the film they're speaking Russian and half way through the scene they switch it English and it's so seamless!

Yeah, it's a great meta concept by Wes Craven but actually quite a dodgy movie. This is a Nightmare On Elm Street sequel where you hardly ever see Freddy and when you do see him, the character re-design looks like complete balls.

The child is annoying as heck and gives a notably poor performance (and you do see much of him). Certainly worth mentioning that John Saxon gives another excellent performance but he can't save it on his own.

Rather frustratingly, elsewhere I've often read people pretty much raving about New Nightmare whilst shitting all over Freddy vs Jason (which I think is far superior to this).
Give me Freddy vs Jason every time, New nightmare is boring..

On topic:

This is so good - You have boobs, blood, martial arts, Friday 13th homage - It's like the director watched Raw Force and decided to bring to this new century.

Personally i'd rather watch Freddy's revenge over New nightmare any day of the week.
Revenge has subtext and exploding birds.

The Playbirds. 1978.

Two detectives investigate the murders of centerfolds for the magazine The Playbirds and a female police officer goes in undercover.

Typical British humour, woman meeting the milkman at the door in some lingerie and asking for some fresh cream, nowadays women meet the guys at the door with a towel and drop it. This ain't a film to watch while you are at work ( I knew what I was getting into when I done it), the good old days of Au Naturel of non fake chests and hairy...you get the picture. Laughs and plenty nudity ashore.

Corporate Lawyer Peter Banning visits London with his wife and two Children , one night his children are kidnapped and a note is left saying captain hook has them, police believe it's some sort of stunt, but Peter finds out he is Peter Pan , now middle aged , flabby and boring he has to become the Pan he once was to rescue his children from captain hook. It did get very mixed reviews but I've always enjoyed it and both Williams and Hoffman give great performances as Peter and Hook . 7/10

Now watching .

After October's horror marathon going for comedy films this month.

Regarding Hook, whilst it's a good film, I felt that it was too slow at the beginning as well as it took too long to get going (1st appearance of Hook)

Monty Python and the Holy Grail. 1975.

King Arthur and his knights go on a quest to find the Holy Grail and come across obstacles in their way.

Classic British parody doesn't come any better than this with the cast in plenty of comical roles where the laughs just keep coming and coming, we know it's daft but can't help but watch right from the start. how did they manage to be so straight faced, the film is well dated but still brought tears of laughter to me, even the animation with the voice over is our humour.
