I may take a bit of stick from the Hammer fans on here, but I'm not too keen on The Devil Rides Out.In fact, I much prefer Hammer's late 60s/early 70s output to their earlier stuff, e.g. Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed, Dr Jeckyll & Sister Hyde, Hands of the Ripper, Twins of Evil, The Satanic Rites of Dracula, Captain Kronos - Vampire Hunter, Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell (my no.1 Hammer fave!), etc.

Sight & Sound’s 10 Greatest Films of All Time, and their one-star IMDb reviews

Sample review – Top slotter Vertigo

This is the most boring film I have ever seen and you will think the same if you see it. This movie goes on forever and never stops ever until it ends. I wish this film had stayed away from me.

It’s all about an old guy in a car who is chasing a woman and that’s it. There is more car driving in this film than in maybe a hundred other films all put together. He never even catches her! What a waste of time. I’m not allowed to tell you what happens later in the film but trust me you don’t want to know. It’s rubbish.

The film looks so fake like a cartoon and it was about to make me laugh until I remembered how bored I was. I’d rather tidy my bedroom than see another minute of that old guy driving. I don’t want to see this film or anything like it ever again.
That's why I very rarely pay attention to the reviews at the IMDB or Amazon. You have people declaring abysmal films as masterpieces and, because they have no appreciation of the fundamentals of filmmaking, writing nonsense like the comment about Vertigo, when it's clear the guy didn't get past the halfway point! Some of the comments on the other nine films are hilarious, so the site is well worth a visit – thanks for posting the link.

To be fair to this reviewer, he/she sounds like a child with access to a computer. No adult would say they would rather tidy their bedroom than watch a film again.

I don't really think Vertigo is aimed at children and can appreciate it would be a pretty dull affair as it lacks a JarJar Binks style character or Adam Sandler's screwball antics.

In my opinion Vertigo is a masterpiece, but not my fave Hitchcock film. That would be Psycho or The Trouble With Harry or Rear Window.

I'm not a big Vertigo guy but I won't be cleaning my bedroom or anything... My favourite Hitch is still Frenzy...

Frenzy is definitely one of his most underrated films, along with Rope, Under Capricorn and Blackmail.

Contamination

What a snooze fest, should had just made another Zombie flick instead, I'd rather tidy my bedroom that watch it again.

It was alright, but not exactly a 'classic'.

I does user the exploding insides thing an awful lot though.

Yep, Rope is hugely underated and it's still written off as cold long takes experiment but the concept is genius and the technique is dazzling. I can't imagine what a hugely difficult film it must have been to make but Hitch makes it all look effortless... Under Capricorn - great choice, TCM have this on rotation at the moment, but I've seen it look much better wherever their sourced their version from...
