Watched Argento's CAT O' NINE TAILS in 4K last night-stunning. I much prefer this to Bird but not Flies. Malden and Franciscus make a good pair of heroes. The denounment won't tax any seasoned gialli die hard, but there's the usual cracking Argento death setpieces. And Morricone's score is majestic. Btw-I've ordered the Japanese bd of Four Flies to see if it's any better quality than previous offerings....

I have to say that I found Four Flies on Grey Velvet to be quite a weak giallo.

Eyes of Crystal (2004) An excellent Italian thriller in which a police inspector (Luigi Lo Casio) tries to track down a psychopathic killer who murders women then removes parts of their bodies, replacing them with antique doll parts. A remarkably stylish Giallo that has some gorgeous cinematography. As much a homage to Fincher's Se7en as classic Gialli, especially in how the narrative unfolds with each murder nice and gruesome. Director Eros Puglielli allows the film to play out at a rapid pace and is helped by a script that's not over complicated. It was great to see genre legend Simon Andreu from Ercoli's Death Walks films (among others) in a pivotal role. A very welcome and very late entry into the yellow genre, quite simply Eyes of Crystal is the best Giallo since Argento's Opera way back in 1987. |

That ending camera shot was pure operatic visual genius though!

Gore In Venice. 1979. A hard boiled eating detective is assigned as case of a double murder, that leads him to look into the victims background and the possible connection. I was told this film has a reputation and it certainly does, nearly every 15-20 mins someone or the same person is getting pumped and looked like someone was knocking on the back door as well of a female. Nobody is going to win any best actor/actress award, i'm gonna go with the makers couldn't get Telly Savalas on board and hired his doppelganger. Director Mario Landi really took the chance to go all the way with the murders and with the sleaze in this and some up close shots but at the same time you got to admire the scenery of Venice, If you ain't easily offended give this a look, certainly worth a re-watch for me. 81Z5QVvUt2L._RI_.jpg
