My favourite Argento giallo would be a coin toss decision between Deep Red and Tenebrae. I can't choose between them.

I'd throw BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMAGE into that mix too - all three are amazing but I think I'd probably lean towards BIRD if forced to pick my favourite of Argento's gialli.

I suggest we add "Gothic giallo" to this poll. I recently saw "Spirits of Death" which I highly recommend to Ida Galli/Evelyn Stewart fans. The cinematography is quite ethereal and the music by Carpi and Nicolai is amazing. There's also a drunken costume party orgy! Another Gothic giallo I saw was "Love and Death in the Garden of the Gods" which is very highly recommended to Erika Blanc fans. This one plays out more as a romantic tragedy than a giallo but it does involve listening to tapes to piece together a mystery and it gets quite violent towards the end. Like Spirits, it's very beautifully shot. |

I personally think it's the best giallo ever made, and is clearly the one that the majority of gialli were imitating, just as Ringu was for the Asian horror boom.

It just oozes style and it is very slick.
