It's somewhat similar to the "modern" UK 15 rating. But it's only an advisory rating like all HK ratings (except Cat III). |

Of course - I have seen some Cat III films that would struggle to get an 18R in the UK!

Shy Spirit (1991) Best described as a romantic ghost story, this one is rather charming and has a decent amount of solid action as well. |

Where's Officer Tuba? (1986) Think a sort of remake of The Dead and The Deadly (1983) and you're halfway there. The ghost story part is badly underdeveloped here though but the film makes up for it's lack of supernatural thrills with some excellent action sequences. It's still ok (thanks to the action and the fun cop buddy interaction) but only of minor interest if you're looking for a HK horror. Last edited by bdc; 1st July 2012 at 08:55 AM. |

Wizard's Curse (1992) Now this is more like it... "A pair of brain-eating evil spirits are vanquished whilst having athletic sex, but brought back by a greedy wizard, whose brain they promptly eat. A taoist priest takes pains to keep lustful Julian away from his luscious doctor daughter. But as the brain eaters pursue father and daughter, it's a young cop who is drawn to Ellen. And, to achieve maximum good power, they must first have sex......." This one has a script by Wong Jing of course! I have a feeling there's a version with more nudity (than my version featured) somewhere in a vault or something but still... Recommended! Have a look at a video I found (bottom of page) at King Who's great blog: Bullets Over Chinatown: Monday Moo Shu Thai poster: |

The Beauty's Evil Roses (1992) "This is one strange film!" "All kinds of strange weirdness and much much more are waiting for your enjoyment or confusion in this film. You be the judge!" I agree. I wouldn't recommend this to the casual viewer but for "more experienced" viewers this HK Cat III black magic tale could prove interesting. The version I watched was missing lots of footage (print damage or censorship) though. |

Watched several HK horrors lately but haven't found time to review them yet...maybe tonight? Just ordered this one (decribed as a wuxia/horror/zombie (non-hopping variety)/mystery film by someone),curious what it will be like... Last edited by bdc; 22nd August 2012 at 05:43 PM. |

Pituitary Hunter aka Brain Theft (1982/1990?) Closest thing to a HK giallo I've come across since Corpse Mania. I wouldn't really compare them though since PH obviously had a much smaller budget and definitely eyes more trashy (but fun). Someone's stealing the brains from the corpses in the hospital morgue and soon after even the brains of the living are being hunted... Sleaze, weirdness and some solid stalk sequences make this one oddly compelling but be warned that the ending is a real (intentional) tearjerker. |
