Indeed R, I actually preferred it to Sleepless, though that needs the rewatch also.

I like The Card Player and I think that it was the last Argento film to have really good cinematography. I can recall that the Card Player cinematographer Benoit Debie said that he told Dario that every shot didn't need to be perfect. Unfortunately Argento seemed to take that advice too much on board for his future projects. Having said that, maybe Dracula would have looked much better if they hadn't been so singularly obsessed with whether the 3D was working or not.

Rewatched the German bd after Card Player, yeah Il Cartaio wins hands down, though Sleepless was enjoyable as well.

Duly noted R!!

The Stendhal Syndrome

And back we go again to see what I enjoyed about it the last time.
Does Asia convince as a police officer? Would it matter? Well, not if Papa was in full control, but sadly tis a bit procedural more than psychotic.
Plus the erstwhile antagonist is a bit bog standard in the motivation stakes. Regardless, I can almost see the film it should have been, so there is something.
Ahem. Don't get me wrong, it's a brutal wee thing, far more squallid in places that you remember.

This is one that has to be dug out and re-watched as well as The Card Player.

If you like Dario Argento films then this four minute video is well worth watching.

Yeah old Mother of Tears.
It’s entertaining enough,doesn’t stop for a breath,but it is,unfortunately,unintentionally hilarious.

Udo Keir’s slaughter for instance......was that a wee sly nod to Blood of Dracula?

I'm surprised no one seems to have released it on blu either here or in the States - at least nothing like a US title showed up on a quick Amazon search.

I think Mother of Tears is great. Far more entertaining than a lot of his more celebrated works for me.

The UK DVD came out on Optimum so I guess the rights are still with Studio Canal and I doubt they have any interest in making a new master for HD.

I've not seen this for AGES and I keep meaning to watch it, I even got the DVD out recently, I never seem to get around to it though.

It's probably in the same boat as that Ozploitation slasher i rewatched last night - Bloodmoon - That's on a dvd from Momentum / StudioCanal and is now completely unavailable but it's highly unlikely it'll get a Blu-Ray release.
