29 November 1966. The Who play the Winter Gardens theatre in Great Malvern, and the venue announces an apology for the tickets being expensive at 7/6 (about 37 and a half pence) due to the group being so fab!

I used to love my old air guitar. I would take it to every heavy metal show I attended in the 80's and no matter who was on stage, I always gave the lead guitarist a run-for-his-money when it came to flashy playing Sadly, I left it at the Portsmouth Guildhall after a Gary Moore concert and I think someone must have pinched it, because it was never returned to me I did get a replacement, but it wasn't the same...

New Years Eve, 1966. The Who, supported by The Move and Pink Floyd appear at The Roundhouse in North West London The liquid crystal light projections were by Gustav Metzger, Pete Townshend's old art school tutor and the creator of the concept of Auto-Destructive Art. Pink Floyd had put on one of their best shows to date which resulted in Townshend a bit miffed (to put it mildly)! In a frenzy of Auto-Destructive Art – or perhaps just plain vandalism – he tore into his amplifiers and speakers, sending them crashing to the stage, smashing his guitar into pieces by using it as a weapon to attack his equipment. Several members of the audience reeled back in shock as flying debris hurtled through the smoke-filled air. His outburst prompted several letters of complaint at his behaviour in the following week's edition of Melody Maker. Ah, rock'n'roll. Don't you just love it?
