Is the King classed as Extreme Metal?
Extremely good Metal

He belongs here for sure as the name suggests he is Extreme metal royalty.

Neurosis - To the Wind

Given to the Rising (2007)

With that intro you could almost expect Chris Martin to start warbling...but no, this is Neurosis not Coldplay. Thankfully

So here we are a week later and my neck is still not in the best shape but who needs a neck anyway

Midweek gigs suck ass when travelling and working the day of the gig and I did almost not go because of work but let's not start this with downer news. Originally the gig was in a much smaller venue but the demand was so big that they moved it to the bigger room at the back which is great I really like that venue it's a bit of a stroll but well worth it.

Enforced
kick the night off and they kick it off in style if your style is a repeated boot to the face. Band walks on stage says Hi and them rips through one of the most energetic sets I have ever seen especially for an opening band rewarding everyone who showed up early I'm sure most of the place was coming straight from work it's so unusual to see a venue so packed so early on a week night. The only part of my body I could move was my head which was handy I always say I miss the old metal crowd moshing stage diving crowd surfing but tonight it was back in full force it was mayhem the band were feeding off it we were feeding off it it was pure euphoria nothing else mattered at that moment just sheer bliss and controlled and friendly violence. The singer left his soul on that stage the man is an animal aggressive angry ready to explode in volcanic cloud of skull busting Trash the way Trash is supposed to be played these guys looked like they would of happily died on that stage what a start to the night 40 minutes and I'm already broken up I hope they come back every year

200 Stab Wounds

Honestly this band are the main reason I grabbed a ticket in the first place earlier this year as I had only just discovered the other two bands on the bill and after blasting both of their albums constantly the week prior I was excited to get to see them so much so I had a semi . They walk onto the stage and just stand there looking out into the crowd as the intro to their new album places the stage is drenched in red light and the backdrop is the gore filled cover of said album you can feel the place is just waiting to go f**king mental and when the song kicks in proper holy shit the doors roof and floor are almost blown out of the place. Speaking of the previous band happy to die on that stage I swear I would of happily not made it out of there alive . For years I didn't get involved in mosh pits because I would have the lady with me and so I felt I needed to stay close maybe protect her from getting slammed but going to these gigs alone I just let loose and I really did miss getting messed up my body is old and broken and maybe I shouldn't be slamming in to young fellas but as they say when in Rome ........... Slam into motherf*ckers . 200 Stab Wounds are absolutely f**king AMAZING.

Gatecreeper

First off Gatecreeper are absolute great guys as I said I met them on Grafton Street when I was strolling around and they were awesome then I got to the gig and they were outside hanging out with everyone who was waiting to get it just real down to earth dudes as happy to be there as we were it really just makes you love them even more.

These guys are the real deal for such a young band they have such a presence on stage especially the vocalist Chase there is no running around or anything but he just has an aura about him that you can taste he just looks cool as sh!t up there sunglasses and an moustache that only few people can pull off without looking like a sexual predator. Their stage show honestly looks like an early Pink Floyd gig with the backdrop and the lights all purples greens and pinks but it really suits the music and image of the band it's hard to explain it just works. If you love Entombed and Obituary then this is for you. These are definitely a band you watch and not mosh to which was great I needed a break from that madness but obviously there is still some swinging of my luscious locks but it's a more of a non contact sports band

All three bands absolutely destroyed the place tonight id say A&Es all over Dublin were crammed on Wednesday night

I started this on a downer taking about what might have been and not making the gig so I'll end this on a more motivational note. Music is the heart and soul of life no matter what genre your into no matter what your going through in your life music can lift you up and give you super human strength to over come your demons your insecurities and your social anxiety's. It brings you together with like minded people and lets you know your not alone in this world. Go to live gigs as much as you can it can actually change your outlook on life.

Metal is for life

I'm seeing Hulder next and that's it for the year I have been toying with going to see Goatwhore and Eyehategod but it's so close to Xmas I might be pushing my luck getting time off we will see what happens but officially Hulder will be my last gig of 2024.

For a little fun for myself i am going to pick my favorite metal albums from 1981 the year i was born up until 2024. Ill do one decade per post.

1981 - 1989

1981

Iron Maiden - Killers

Some great albums came out this year but i have to go with Iron Maiden Killers it was the first album i ever bought with my own money and its still my favorite Maiden album. Its the album that put me on my metal journey not just an amazing album but such an important album in my life.

1982

Venom - Black Metal

The first time i heard Venom was after Headbangers Ball i had fallen asleep on the couch and i woke up and into the pit had started and the two videos i saw when i woke up was Napalm Death and Venom Black Metal i had never hear anything like it and it actually scared me a little but i couldn't get it out of my head and i have never been the same since. I will say i absolutely hate teachers pet but the rest of the album cant be denied

1983

Slayer - Show No Mercy

Its a hard choice between this and Metallica Kill Em All but this is just darker more evil and thats always more appealing to me. Toms screams on this always gets my blood pumping.

1984

Celtic Frost - Morbid Tales

What a year for metal this was its so hard to pick but i have to go with Celtic Frost its an album that has it all trash metal speed metal doom and punk brilliant catchy riffs the vocals are clear but brutal just a great great album.

1985

Kreator - Endless Pain

Fast aggressive violent brutal makes you want to bust up your house and punch a pensioner in the gallbladder if those are not the ingredients for a great album i dont know what is

1986

Slayer - Reign In Blood

1987

Death - Scream Bloody Gore

Bathory really ran this one close but there is no way i could not pick this one just outstanding from start to finish i love Death stories of how much of an asshole Chuck was to his fans sours them a little bit to me but still love every single thing Death put out. Also just that album art alone is enough to be album of the year

1988

Slayer - South of Heaven

Its hard to say anything new about the classic era of Slayer. This was always one of my go to gym albums i almost broke a few treadmills while this almost brought me to the edge my physical endurance

1989

Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness

What a debut album this is it sounds pure evil i always say it but it sounds like Trey is playing his guitar backwards thats how evil it sounds like Satan himself is using Trey as his musical vessel. I remember i bought this and Blessed are the Sick on cassette on the same day from a second hand record shop my young mind was damaged beyond repair after that and look at me now .

Tomorrow ill try and do 1990 - 1999.

Interesting you say Venom scared you as a kid. They did me as well.It wasn't Black Metal but the song Warhead.

It's still really eerie to these ears. Also a bit scary with it.
