I watched the other day, I thought the audience was lacking a bit of energy. But after hearing about the 10+ hour queues to even get on site.

It'd be too much like hard work for me. Easier to go online and just complain about it.

Even when I was younger the idea of going to a festival filled me with dread lol. I did go to all-dayers but never a full weekend or 4-day event.

On the plus side, chilled audience aside, Lars is having fun haha.

All dayers were a lot better than what we have now. A single day event like Monsters of Rock or the MK Bowl all dayers were full of great acts. There's too much rubbish nowadays.

Take Metallica seeing as we were talking about them in the first place. I saw them in 93 at Milton Keynes Bowl. Support was The Almighty (three top 40 albums including one at #8 and numerous top 40 singles) Diamond Head, Megadeth and of course the headliners. So two huge bands, one very popular in the UK and a stalwart of the NWOBHM.

Then again in 95 at Donington - Metallica played with Skidrow, Therapy, Slayer, Slash's Snakepit. White Zombie, Machine Head, Warrior Soul and Corrosion of Conformity. - As a metal fan at that time all those bands were must sees.

You really can't say the same about all the main stage bands at Download.

Just my opinion of course.

Yeah those 2 Metallica headline shows have fantastic lineups, not wanting to be the grumpy old bastard but the 90s really were better haha.

Never got to see The Almighty back in the day but I wish I had done.

I like that Skid Row were there with all those thrash and punk style bands. They easily held their own among them too. Certainly had the best front man out of any band playing.

I saw them at the Newcastle Arena during the Kid A/Amnesiac tour and was mesmerised by Jonny Greenwood, who spent much of the performance sitting on the floor with a computer/synthesiser of sorts, constantly twiddling with buttons and creating a wonderful, occasionally discordant, background to Thom Yorke's incredible vocals.

I haven't compiled a complete Desert Island Discs list but, if and when I do, No Surprises would definitely be on it.
According to this Guardian article published today, the 1997 Radiohead performance is their number one headliner slot. I wish I had a recording of it!

This was the very first song i heard from this band. It might seem crazy now but in 1987 this was edgy and so ****ing cool and the band on stage appeared so dangerous.

Guns N' Roses - It's So Easy

Appetite for Destruction (1987)
