Listening to Stockhausen's 1967 electronic work Hymnen which takes various national anthems and mangles them out of all recognition - pieces are cut-up, pitch-shifted and morphed into alien soundscapes mixed with radio static and various environmental sounds and voices. At 2 hours it’s a dense and often difficult work, but considering the turmoil going on in Europe right now, Stockhausen's apocalyptic music sounds strangely appropriate...
