I woke up with a bit of this in my head, so had to listen to the whole thing as soon as possible. (Not that that was any hardship!)

Rediscovering Cabaret Voltaire's 80's period and liking it a lot more than I used to. The years it seems have been kind...

I'm a big fan of the Cabs' early period - like TG, they remain a big influence, even after years of increasingly sophisticated noise / experimental / underground stuff. Certainly they made a big impact on the kind of 'music' I make. On the strength of this, I might look again at the mid eighties stuff, which I kind of tuned out from.

In not listening to them. I hate the name far too much.

I'm mentally flicking thru my record collection now and I can't think of any band I have whose name I hate. A friend of mine hates the names Nurse With Wound and Jackie-O Motherfu*ker but I like them and they put out great stuff...

Here's the original nurse with wound...from Battleship Potemkin

Never let a band name be a reason for you not to listen to a band, especially when it comes to the Butthole Surfers, there are plenty of other reasons not to listen to them, there name should have nothing to do with it.

It has got me thinking about "offensive" band names, I've always liked Anal C**t (I'm never sure where to put an asterisk) But I'm sure they aren't for everyone, still a name should never be the problem, listen to the music and if you don't like the music fine. I always think any band name sounds weird at first until you get into the music. MDC are another favourite of mine (one of my favourite to see live too), their initials have stood for various things which can be incredibly offensive especially compared to the Butthole Surfers which is really silly. But it all depends from person to person. Okay, I am listening to music too. With everything you have to consider the contents and the message not just the lyrics or the band name.
