I saw Priest on the Angel of Retribution tour when they ill advisedly took the Scorpions out with them. It wasn't exactly a disaster for Priest but as far as well, pretty much everything went, they were definitely second best. Any band supporting Maiden are immediately forgotten the second Doctor, Doctor comes through the PA. |

True story, on the three occasions that I’ve seen them live, the support bands were Airborne, Shinedown and Killswitch Engage in that order and I couldn’t tell you a single thing about what any of their performances were like apart from the fact Airborne sounded shit in the MEN due to “support band syndrome†where the sound engineer makes the openers sound crap before the main act ![]() I’d like to see them tour with Priest, but I can’t see that ever happening

At Preston Guildhall for No Prayer they had Wolfsbane. I sort of remember them as it was a really small venue and Wolfsbane were fairly popular at the time. Wonder what happened to their singer? He wasn't bad at all. Fear of the Dark was another Donington gig for me. The X Factor had My Dying Bride. I'll never forget them. I have absolutely no idea who even supported them at Manchester for Brave New World or Dance of Death. Not seen them since. |

Re: Iron Maiden support acts World Piece Tour (1983) - Grand Prix, promoting the 'Samurai' LP, featuring Robin McAuley on vocals (later to work with Michael Schenker). They were fun World Slavery Tour (1984) - Waysted, featuring Paul Chapman, Pete Way and Andy Parker who were all ex-U.F.O. My main memories of them were vocalist Fin, who must have stuffed two pairs of socks down the front of his spandex trousers (!) and Chapman playing Zeppelin licks on his guitar with a violin bow Virtual XI Tour (1998) - Dirty Deeds. OK, I admit it!! This band draws a complete blank in my memory. No anecdotes, remembrances or gossip about them at all. Obviously instantly forgettable!!

I actually forgot that My Dying Bride opened for them, a band I’ve seen in concert quite a few times but I had no memory of that particular one, perhaps you’re right about Maiden support acts haha

![]() It was yes, Maiden were promoting The X Factor and MDB current album was The Angel and the Dark River, which might be considered a bit 'up-tempo' for them, was still a full on doom album with Aaron pretty much crying the lyrics. I love that album ![]()
