The Manchester Co-Op saga is turning into a fiasco!

Manchester's Co-op Arena cancels Peter Kay's opening gig with just 24 hours to go / ITV News

"The UK's largest and newest arena has postponed its opening night with just 24 hours notice after work failed to finish on time.

Bolton-comedian Peter Kay was due to perform two shows at the 23,500 capacity Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, on Tuesday 23 April and Wednesday 24 April.

However, the gigs have been cancelled with less than a day to go after a test event on Saturday found issues with the power supply in certain parts of the venue.

The highly-anticipated show was set to act as the grand opening for the city's flagship new venue, the largest in the UK.

But just the day before, it has been announced that both shows have been cancelled with work not yet complete on the Eastlands venue.

The council's building control is also yet to sign the building off.

Instead, Peter Kay will perform on Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 April, a week later than planned..."

It would be a fiasco if they'd said everything was 100% okay and then it proved not to be the case when they'd actually opened the doors to the general public.

Tbh most things have teething problems when starting off, be different if problems continue months later. .

Co-op Live boss RESIGNS days before first show
It follows a turbulent week for the venue

Co-op arena live general manager has dramatically QUIT following a turbulent week ahead of the venue's launch. Gary Roden, also an executive director at Co-op Live, has resigned today (April 25).

It comes after the planned grand opening with Peter Kay on Tuesday was pushed back by a week amid power issues. And it comes days after comments Mr Roden made to the BBC about grassroots music venues sparked fury among music fans in Manchester and beyond.

A Co-op Live spokesman told the Manchester Evening News: "Gary Roden has decided to resign. We'd like to thank Gary for his help bringing the UK's newest arena to live entertainment fans and wish him the best for the future.

Black keys concert and the rescheduled Peter Kay concerts cancelled again.

I've only got the Smashing Pumpkins concert booked for there in June, should be up and running by then.

I get there will always be teething problems with anything new, but for some ppl who booked these first few concerts etc might end up inconveniencing some of them, especially anyone who booked time of work or overnight stay, and some ppl who have no patience will start to get annoyed and that won't be good for business.

Now here a thought,

When building something new instead of giving a deadline even before starting, why not just get on with job and then give a openeing date few weeks after they know when completition will be finished, allowing them few weeks for final touches or if owt goes wrong etc.
Otherwise they might end up rushing things and that's how mistakes have been made.

I'm seriously glad I've only one concert there and that's June,

Why don't co-op arena cancel everything for the next 2-3 weeks, until they get themselves sorted,
Tonight gig cancelled again as ppl where queuing up and going inside.
