During the interview with Emma Barnett on the Today program, she said that the publicity around the OnlyFans side hustle was helping to get her story, and that of other artists, into the media because not many people are aware of how expensive it has come to tour, paying for venues, food, accommodation, technicians etc. and they wouldn't be having that conversation if she was selling concert posters.

Kate Nash also said the cost of touring has increased by a third in the last four years and there are fewer venues to play because of closures, and the OnlyFans income has enabled her to take a crew member from the UK to the Europe concerts. The Today interview is from around 1.43:00 on BBC Sounds.

Venues make even less money than bands lol. Booking fees and merch fees make all the difference.

The promoters on the other hand are raking it in.

What's stopping her? Surely she could get some printed up to sell at gigs?

If I'm ignorant of what I'm saying then feel
Free to correct me it's just a mere comment,
First of all, guess that explains a bit why merch has got dear all of a sudden,
It's just pure greed on everyone's behalf, the ppl who are making them the money should benefit the most after all a company wouldn't have a company if there wasn't any workforce, it's the workforce that makes them the money, so the same should applies to the bands doesn't it? Its ok having the venue but if no one plays there then they wouldn't be making money, so shouldn't the band be dictating to them after all there's enough venues to go and play somewhere else if they don't agree on their cost, I mean maybe they should be taking a leaf out of Taylor Swift book she must be doing something right she is worth something like 1.6 Billion, many artists who be been around for donkey years haven't earned that, might be wrong but I don't even think Paul McCartney quite reached a billion yet. It's sad that ppl are making more money off the back of the ones who are actually making them the money, if you get what I mean.
Like demdike said surely they could sleep on the tour bus to save cost, or find cheap digs instead of swanky overpriced places.

As I understand it, the costs are from inflationary effects on the prices of accommodation, food, labour, travel, and the lack of choice of places to play as venues closed during and since the Covid pandemic, and artists are not being paid accordingly:
Quote:
Meanwhile, in recent months, acts including Rachel Chinouriri, Ratboy and The Duke Spirit singer Liela Moss have all cancelled tours, blaming the costs.

Nash highlighted a survey from recording and rehearsal studio network Pirate, which said most artists have not seen an increase in gig fees in recent years despite a rise in ticket prices.

"Festival prices and ticket prices have gone up drastically, but the musicians' wage hasn't," she said.

"So you might be playing a venue that you've played multiple times and you can sell it out, [but] you're getting the same fee that you did 10 years ago, probably. But all the other costs have gone up."

Some corporations make big profits from music, as do a "select few" artists, she said.

"But the majority are losing money, and we are also creating an environment where the industry is saying, we don't want diversity in music, because we don't want working class people to be able to afford to do this."

I get the cost of Glastonbury the cost sounds expensive but when you think how many acts there is over the period of the festival when there's around 100 stages, the amount of ppl who work there and amount of work that goes into it, so around ?350 ish for a choice of that many acts and 4 days it isn't bad when you think about it.

So far there's only been one confirmed act for Glastonbury,

He's Scottish
He probably as old as the Highland hills themselves
He thinks he sexy
And once went sailing over seas in the 70s,

I don't know if to laugh or cry,

Rod Stewart.

I'll tune in for a bit of Hot Legs when they show him he will probably be one of the only people on the bill I'll have heard of the past few years I haven't known many of the acts.
