Thanks Mojo.

I can only imagine how good the Vipco release looked.

Looking forward to Scalps though.

You're a glutton for punishment regarding Drive-in Massacre, B_E.

I presume you must like it (as i do) because it doesn't have an awful lot going for it really and i couldn't ever recommend it.
I reviewed it as part of my Nightmare USA viewing last year. It is pretty bad but in a sort of endearing way.

Thanks for the input, Mojo - I think the Vipco stamp of quality did often have a negative impact on many of the films they released!

That's a joke by the way. Not the vitriol though, that's true, unfortunately.
Why does he get stick?

I enjoy his films.
One of the few dedicated horror directors left in a ****ing industry of Hollywood remakes and endless 'camcorder' shite.

Some ****ing people. You could give them the Earth and the moon....

You could take a genuine classic and put eli Roth's name on it and the bleating Facebook poseurs would come out to slag it off. Not that all Roth's critics are like that, however its just one of the by-products of the internet.

Let's not forget when most people hear 'Eli Roth' first thought is Hostel and torture-porn style horror, not fair as I re-watched the first Hostel and found it improved with passing years, it's a well made 'escape' type horror and tho bloodthirsty a pretty good ride none the less.

let's hope he grows to great stature within the horror community.

Also, 'torture porn' wasn't a thing until Hostel came out. Hostel was more an attempt at delivering a straight up horror picture while emulating the graphic violence of Takeshi Miike films (which is why he has a cameo) and as it was a low budget film that made a s*** ton of cash everyone and their uncle began trying to emulate it to score a quick buck.

I quite like Eli Roth and while he hasn't made a masterpiece, I've enjoyed nearly everything he's been involved in to varying degrees, purely in a 'pass the time' sort of way.

He obviously has a genuine love for genre. He's okay in my book.

I quite enjoy his little bits on dvd extras. His interview on Arrows Nightmare City disc is entertaining. No it's not terribly informative or deeply knowledgeable (though i have no doubt the guy knows his stuff) but his genuine enthusiasm for the genre is quite infectious.

The X-Rated Kult blu-ray release of The Sweet Body Of Deborah is really good too! I haven't watched the whole thing, but had a scan through and it looks better than the majority of Italian restorations I've seen. It's lacking the English language track, which some may take issue with. I noticed they're rushing out a cheaper non-mediabook dual format release of it, which makes me think a company like 88 Films have picked it up and they're trying to wring everything out of it before the cheaper import can impact its sales.

I kind of selfishly hope they don't have it though, as I already have the mediabook.
