The first Hammer film since they signed the deal...is a dvd upgrade with decent extras.

Default Elizabeth Taylor in London / Sophia Loren in Rome Blu-ray

British label Network Releasing is preparing a Blu-ray release of Elizabeth Taylor in London / Sophia Loren in Rome. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on June 20.

Unseen anywhere for decades and highly sought after, these early '60s TV specials showcase two Hollywood icons travelling through and reflecting upon the cities they love. Newly-remastered in High Definition from original film elements, both shows feature sweeping, evocative scores from world-famous composer John Barry.

Elizabeth Taylor, who was born in London and lived there as a child, returns to the city that will forever be in her blood and gives her impressions of and reactions to the mosaic of London and Londoners she encounters during her visit.

In a show never seen in the UK, Sophia Loren follows Taylor's lead, but this time in Rome. She meets Marcello Mastroianni as she visits the sights, affectionately commenting on the grandeur of the Eternal City and the irrepressible nature of its people.

Special Features:
  • Limited edition booklet by John Barry experts Geoff Leonard & Pete Walker
  • Elizabeth Taylor in London: original US broadcast presentation
  • Image gallery, featuring many behind-the-scenes stills

Right up my street this one I love these time-capsule docs and the trailer looks really interesting! Rome in the 60s It doesn't really look much different now.

I quite fancy those travelogues. However i'm wary of them in case they aren't really up to much. £15 seems a tad expensive.

They only run a total of fifty minutes each.

@Justin - You buy them then report back.

Network is having a 35% off sale on selected blurays (different to the HMV promotion) via their web store. Ordered Hammer House of Horror TV collection for £11.

That looks fookin' amazing on Blu. You'll love it.

I hoped there'd be some classic horror and sci-fi Blu's in the offer but there's only Countess Dracula. Where's Death Line, The Shout, Invasion etc.

Personally I wanted some of the Monty Python series, the sales are often pretty random, I almost think they just look at the inventory levels and see what's got loads in stock and that's what goes on the sale.

While watching the extra '50 Years Of Hammer-news feature' on the Countess Dracula Blu ray, I was stunned to see myself on it a couple of times in the background at Bray Studios. A very slim version of me back then. My 10 seconds of fame was broadcast on TV and now I'm immortalised on Blu ray. Nice surprise.

Congratulations to Network on twenty five years of being in business.

It all began with a Charley Says public service film.

For the celebrations they have repressed some long out of print TV series in limited quantities. I got excited when I saw this announcement hoping that The Life and Loves of a She-Devil was going to among them, but alas it wasn't..
