For anyone who's interested studio canal r also giving the film a cinema re-release too. Not sure which cut but I'll guess the original, which is a shame as the later cut r better.

It's also released as a 4K Ultra HD set with the two Blu-ray discs and the 4K Ultra HD one, which contains the film with both commentaries and a trailer. It's available to preorder at several online stores, with HMV and Amazon having the lowest price: £24.99. I'll probably go into town and buy it in store in a couple of weeks. https://hmv.com/store/film-tv/4k-ult...director-s-cut

I'm not sure if this new version has all the feature length docs on the Canadian three dvd edition i have. The Guts of the Beast is on both but the 'making of' which is eighty minutes doesn't seem to be there. |

I could probably borrow it from him if I wanted to watch those feature-length documentaries.

That one looks like the Iron Maiden artwork I'm not a fan of steelbooks though, I'll just get the normal edition.

Uncanny isn't it. Even artists on official releases just rip everyone else off. |

31st July, 2023 Based on the novel by Will Heinrich, Sam Peckinpah’s only war film is an intense and uncompromising affair that brilliantly reflects both the futility of conflict and the director’s fascination with individuals confronted by events beyond their control. A World War II tale told from the German perspective, Cross Of Iron follows a platoon of German soldiers in Russia when the German Wehrmacht forces had been decimated and the Germans were retreating along the Russian front. Rolf Steiner (James Coburn) is a German corporal and recipient of the Iron Cross who has grown disenchanted with Hitler’s war machine. When Captain Stransky (Maximilian Schell) assumes charge, the pair are thrown into immediate conflict, the autocratic but ultimately cowardly Stransky coveting the loyalty and honour Steiner commands. Evocatively shot by John Coquillon (Billy the Kid) in sombre tones to emphasise the horrors of combat, the superlative lead performances are matched by David Warner and James Mason as war-weary senior officers. Viewed as one of Peckinpah’s most powerful works, it’s an unflinching vision of the Second World War.
