Convoy (1978) rated by BBFC

A new 4K by the look of it seeing as there's still a Blu in print from SC.

'An Inspector Calls' (1954) - Coming to 4K and Blu-ray in the UK from Studio Canal UK as part of their Vintage Classics line

Release date: October 7

"The Birling family are rich, pampered and complacent. It is 1912, and the shadow of the impending war has yet to fall across their lives. As they sit down to dinner one night, a knock at the door announces the arrival of Inspector Poole (Alastair Sim), who insists on questioning the family about the suicide of a young working-class woman.

A timely reminder of the importance of social responsibility and community, AN INSPECTOR CALLS was adapted for the screen by Desmond Davis (Lilli Palmer Theatre) and directed by Guy Hamilton (director of four James Bond films, including the iconic Goldfinger). A tight-knit chamber piece unfolds in to a thought-provoking murder mystery and confessional family drama with stand-out acting led by Alastair Sim (renowned as cinema's greatest Scrooge in A Christmas Carol) as the seemingly all-knowing inquisitor Inspector Poole.

AN INSPECTOR CALLS was scanned, restored and color corrected in 4K HDR (Dolby Vision) at Filmfinity, London, using original 35mm camera negative film elements. Digital Restoration specialists used image processing tools to remove many thousands of instances of dirt, eliminate scratches and other imperfections. This restoration was particularly challenging because of a high number of broken frames that need to be repaired. Combined with the HDR grade, the final results of this new restoration are simply stunning!
"

Special Features and Technical Specs:
  • NEW 4K RESTORATION OF THE FILM (2024)
  • DOLBY VISION / HDR PRESENTATION OF THE FILM
  • NEW Film critic Anna Smith on An Inspector Calls
  • Audio commentary by author and film historian David Del Valle
  • Interview with actress Jane Wenham
  • Optional English SDH subtitles for the main feature

I've seen several versions of An Inspector Calls, a play I studied for GCSE English literature, but not that one. I'm looking forward to seeing it on the stage this summer, particularly because it's the West End production.

I also studied the text for GCSE English, and I think this is the only version of the film I *have* seen !

I have StudioCanal's earlier dvd of An Inspector Calls. Good film but as alluded to by Nos it's clearly a stage play and not an awful lot happens other than chat.

I much prefer Priestley's Benighted to this.

I love An Inspector Calls. The 2015 version with David Thewlis is also very good.

I'm sure that's the one I've seen most recently, a powerful interpretation of Priestley's play. If I recall correctly, it's available to watch on iPlayer.

I also studied R.C. Sherriff Journey's End, and highly recommend Saul Dibb's 2017 film with Asa Butterfield, Paul Bethany, Toby Jones, Steven Graham, and Sam Clafin.

Pretty sure it was iPlayer I watched it on. Not sure if it's still on there. I've seen the Sims one a few times now but don't own a copy yet
