'Wolfman's Got Nards' (2018) - Coming to Blu-ray from Kino Lorber

Release date: October 22

"How does a Squad... become a Cult? How does a Cult... become a Classic?

When it was released in 1987, The Monster Squad was deemed a failure by critics and was, according to the box office, a film no one cared about. But over the last three decades, word of mouth has turned it into a cultural phenomenon. Wolfman's Got Nards is a howlingly entertaining documentary that explores the power of cult film told through the lens of The Monster Squad, taking an in-depth look into the film's conception, response, cult status and revival.

Through interviews with the cast, crew, screenwriters, directors, academics and original reviewers as well as through never-before-seen footage, it turns the lens on an audience of self-proclaimed misfits (including celebrities and filmmakers) who have kept The Monster Squad alive for more than thirty years. Directed by Andre Gower, who starred as Squad member Sean Crenshaw in the original movie! This special edition, loaded with new extras is must own for all the fans of The Monster Squad."

  • Writer / Producer / Actor Adam F. Goldberg on '80s Movies (5:28)
  • Writer / Producer / Director Fred Dekker on Movies (9:10)
  • Actor / Writer / Producer Seth Green on Pop Culture (6:36)

I keep meaning to pick up the Studio Canal version of Fright, although I've never seen it, and don't think I've seen anyone mention it here. Is it recommended?

It's excellent. It's set in what amounts to an old dark house and also has slasher elements galore and a proper menacing performance from Ian Bannen.

Without checking i'd guess it was maybe the first film in the 'lone baby sitter against a madman' genre

There's a twenty minute interview with Kim Newman on the disc which is enjoyable.

I take it you already own And Soon the Darkness?

No that above 'synopsis' is from the listing for that very film.

Well you can't keep a good (New)man down. Kim is on both Fright and And Soon the Darkness.

I can't recommend both films highly enough.
