StudioCanal have just released a 4K Ultra HD (and Blu-Ray) version of Carpenter's 'The Fog'

Available to order from Amazon UK for £19.99

"John Carpenter's classic 1980 horror THE FOG has been stunningly restored in 4K. Antonio Bay, California has turned a hundred years old. As the residents of this small, quaint harbour town begin to celebrate, an eerie fog envelops the shore and from its midst emerge dripping, demonic spectres, victims of a century old shipwreck, seeking revenge. Starring Jamie Lee Curtis, the FOG is a tense and ghoulish tale that confirms John Carpenter as a master of terror.

The 2018 restoration of THE FOG was made using the original camera negative which was scanned at 4K resolution in 16bit and we applied a HDR Dolby Vision workflow to the restoration process which resulted in the creation of a 4K DCP, HDR and SDR UHD version and a new SDR HD version which were produced with the same high technological standards as today's biggest international film releases.

Extra Features
  • Audio Commentary with writer/director John Carpenter and writer/director Debra Hill
  • Audio commentary with actors Adrienne Barbeau, Tom Atkins and production designer Tommy Lee Wallace
  • Intro by John Carpenter - an interview with director John Carpenter originally recorded for a French DVD release in 2003

  • The Shape of The Thing to Come: John Carpenter Un-filmed: A brand new featurette looking at the John Carpenter films that never were
  • Scene Analysis by John Carpenter - Director John Carpenter analyses key scenes from The Fog, in an interview from 2003

It's more like Indiana Jones and the Apocalypse Now.

They've excelled themselves now!

One of the best films of all time deserves better.

I'll be sticking with my Criterion edition.

I’ve said before on here how I’m not a fan of Don’t Look Now and can’t see why everyone but me thinks it’s amazing, so last week when I heard about this release, I thought I’d give it another shot to see if my feelings had changed enough to warrant an upgrade: the answer is a big fat no, still bored me to tears, didn’t even pause it while I went for a cig

It does look fantastic with the Venice setting, but I just don’t get the love for it, add Rosemary’s Baby to that list too
