Crap film, VHS transfer and cut by 10 seconds. The Synapse BD/DVD cobo is the way to go.

Is the Dark Sky release of The Last Hunter a marked improvement on the Vipco release?

Yes - it's in the correct ratio (2.35:1 - Vipco is 1.85) and has an excellent interview with Margheriti's son, who acted in the film and was assistant director. Neither are fully complete - the Vipco has footage not in the DS and vice versa.
