The footage is in rough shape, the changeover with the footage would look jarring and people would complain either way. The extra stuff is all on the disc as an extra anyway. I would'nt let it put you off, its a great release.

The version on the dvd is the original theatrical version and it looks great btw.
The other footage was sourced from a work print it seems.
