They said at the time that the elements available for Martin were unsuitable for HD masters, I don't think we'll ever see that on BD - it was filmed on 16mm if I recall correctly.

Evil Dead was also filmed on 16mm, and look how good that is on Blu-ray. It looked amazing. So the mere fact of it being shot on 16mm wouldn't account for it not being good enough for an HD make-over.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre was shot on 16mm film but that looks outstanding in HD. With Martin, it must have been the case where the digibeta supplied to Arrow wasn't good enough for an HD encoding.

Not seen Evil Dead on blu, I dunno why but i need to keep the impression of an x-gen VHS copy in my head when I think of that film

It's well worth upgrading to Blu-ray, but try and buy the American one which has the film in its original aspect ratio of 1.33:1 and 1.85:1.
