The only place i can work out it had a theatrical release was South Korea but like you can find no poster. Makes me presume the poster was of Thompson as you mention and they used a generic image of him holding the gun which was then adapted by the various video distributors and turned into cover art.

I know there are more important things to worry about, but my heart sank a little when I took out the disc and saw the cover staring back at my through the case.

Of course there are, but this is a movie forum, a cult movie forum at that. We aren't here to discuss the issues of the world, we are here to get away from all that. I can feel your pain if you were hoping for a different reverse artwork.

It's quite easy for any of us whilst having a bad day to come on here and see posts regarding films and consider them trivial to reality, i've done it myself loads of times. However in the cold light of a Thursday night closing in on midnight that's what this forum is all about.

Oh and yes it is really poor of Arrow to use that as reverse art, it's awful.

Nooooooo, I'll take the original art, no matter how shit. I just feel if it was good enough then, there's no need come up with something new just to pull in a few more punters.

Default The Arrow Films / Video Thread

The art on the reverse was put together by Hollywood dvd, and Arrow should get a ****ing slap for calling it the original art. Granted, I may have missed it, but there's not even a ****ing snake in the film! They should get a double slap because Mastorakis even says in his interview on the disc that the image of Thompson was used when it was released.

Ok, forget everything I said about Hired to Kill. In Brian Thompson's interview he rolls out the more familiar poster with himself on it, but he also shows what looks like a brochure used to sell the film (says "now in pre-production" on it) with the art on the reverse of Arrow's blu-ray. It also has the original title of the film on it, Freedom Or Death.

So Hollywood dvd are the only company to use it's theatrical poster on their artwork?

Apart from making me smile, it's also quite interesting. Especially when you think the video companies went with a standard pic of Thompson that in effect could have been any action star from that period in a generic pose.

Just goes to show the mindset of the system if that's the right word back then.

Yeah, the pic of Thompson was used when it was released, the other one was pre-release artwork.
