New Target books announced.

The Stones of Blood by David Fisher - An ancient stone circle becomes a battleground as the Fourth Doctor must outwit the deadliest alien criminal this side of hyperspace.

The Androids of Tara by David Fisher - The Fourth Doctor and Romana’s search for the fourth segment of the all-powerful Key to Time leads them to the planet Tara.

The Fires of Pompeii by James Moran - It is AD 79, and the Tenth Doctor and Donna arrive in Pompeii on the eve of the town’s destruction. Mount Vesuvius is ready to erupt and bury its surroundings in molten lava, just as history dictates. Or is it?

The Eaters of Light by Rona Munro - The Twelfth Doctor takes Bill and Nardole back to 2nd century Scotland to learn the fate of the ‘lost’ Ninth Legion of the Imperial Roman Army. 5,000 soldiers vanished without explanation - how?

The Zygon Invasion by Peter Harness - It took three Doctors to broker a fragile peace between Zygons and Humans. Now the Twelfth Doctor must face the fallout alone. With his allies compromised and his companion believed dead, can he stop the world from plunging into war?

The first two listed are interesting. Penned by the original scriptwriter the late David Fisher and adapted from his new 2011 and 2014 audio novelisations, The Stones of Blood and The Androids of Tara are now being released as two Target books. The original Target versions, published in the 1970s, were written by former Doctor Who script editor Terrance Dicks.

The latest "David Tennant is going to return" rumour has just got a bit crazier.

"In a rather surprising turn of events, it now appears that Catherine Tate, who played Donna Noble, could be about to return to the TARDIS...Considering how Donna’s storyline ended this could be even more unlikely than David Tennant’s comeback and would certainly raise a few eyebrows...But, according to the same ‘BBC source’ that predicted Tennant’s return, Catherine Tate wouldn’t be playing Donna and, instead, would be portraying a completely different character"

The report continues:

"It remains unclear whether or not her new role would be anything more than a small cameo or a much bigger role...The information we have comes from a Doctor Who group with the poster claiming this is the same ‘BBC source’ who leaked the David Tennant return news...This source was also apparently correct about the return of the Sea Devils and the casting of Sacha Dhawan as the Master in series 12...It sounds as if this will just be for the 60th anniversary special and it wouldn’t be the first time a companion has returned as a different character"

The David Tennant / Catherine Tate pairing was a popular combination in 2008, and the 4th series gained the highest average viewers during the Nu-Who period

On one hand, this rumour might sound like a stretch, but on the other, *if* David is coming back, would it be that unlikely RTD would want to try to replicate a proven pairing too?

Even if all of this turns out to be false in the end (and I still don't think it would work), on the positive side, it has got people talking about the show in a BIG way - something we haven’t seen since it was announced that Jodie was taking over the helm of the TARDIS in July 2017

This is what RTD does. He generates interest in quite spectacular fashion. All this may even boost the ratings on Whitaker's final two episodes but whenever Davies first episode airs you can be sure it won't be to overnights of 3.2m viewers.*
