Hi Paul I enjoyed it. I thought it was a good old-fashioned 'Doctor Who' romp The continuity was enough for us long-time fans to appreciate (the opening shot of the policeman standing outside a junkyard in Totter's Lane, 'Greyhound Leader' being used as a UNIT call sign, the character Osgood wearing a Tom Baker scarf etc), but not enough to alienate new viewers It was also good to see Tom back in the show (although I am still unsure as to whether he was supposed to be The Doctor, or another character completely), and the (very) subtle appearance of Capaldi was inspired The three main characters seemed to be having fun, which is the whole point of the show, although there was a bit too much 'silly' humour for me - the Tennant rabbit scene for example I do think that the Zygons were under-used however, and the mid-wiping process smacked of deus ex machina I also think it was a shame that none of the other Doctors were included in the special, nor were there any references to previous companions All-in-all, I thought it was a loving and well done tribute to the programme

The Doctor Who Thread
Glad you liked it! I know you're not overly keen on the newer Who but I did think this was a wonderful tribute to the show of old which also managed to do a lot to the current plot. That last shot was absolutely glorious and 1000 times better than anything in The Five Doctors. Agree about the companions though. It makes no sense to see the old Doctors back looking haggard and old but the companions can age so I don't see why they can't have been featured. My take on the Tom Baker scene (after watching it numerous times) was that it was done ambiguously to draw no real conclusions but there was enough in there to suggest The Doctor grows old, retires and becomes The Curator, taking on the aged appearance of bygone Doctors ("you might find yourself revisiting some old faces, just the old favourites though eh?"). God only knows what RTD would have done with it though. Peter Kay playing the main villain as a farting alien monster in an Anne Robinson suit. |

As i mentioned previously, the Doctors and a lot of companions have turned up in the various Who productions this last week. All the Doctors have had reasonable screentime and a lot of the companions turned up in Moffats dream / nightmare in The Five(ish) Doctors. I was happy with all of it as a package deal. |
