Very much off topic, although I suppose you could watch 'Doctor Who' on it

Look at the reviews of this little beauty!

The girl MTDS is a fan of Dr Who, I'd like to buy her some of the older shows...so what would people recommend for an 8 year old girl? Cheers in advance.

Spearhead From Space, Earthshock and Remembrance of the Daleks are pretty safe bets, plenty of action in all of them and they're usually regarded as some of the best of classic who. The two Peter Cushing Dalek movies are a lot of fun also. Probably best to stay away from the early black and white episodes for the time being as a lot of them can be a bit of a slog (although Dem will no doubt flay me for saying that as Hartnell is his favorite ). I'm sure the others will be able to recommend some more.

Thanks RedEye. I didn't even think of the 2 films. They might be a good option as she is familiar with Cushing from living with me!

Give her a selection of Doctors and genres. I would recommend:
  • William Hartnell - An Unearthly Child. After the wonderful first episode, it does get a bit boring, but it's place in Who History cannot be underestimated
  • Patrick Troughton - The Mind Robber. Surreal and wacky. Very atypical of the show, but one of the best stories ever transmitted
  • Jon Pertwee - Spearhead From Space. A story which shows the after effects of regenerating, and one which is still very scary
  • Tom Baker - Anything from Planet of Evil/Pyramids of Mars/The Brain of Morbius/The Seeds of Doom/The Deadly Assassin/The Robots of Death/The Talons of Weng-Chiang. The golden age of Doctor Who. Gothic horror at it's best
  • Peter Davison - Kinda. Though provoking and very intelligent
  • Colin Baker - The Two Doctors. Baker meets Troughton in a very under-appreciated story
  • Sylvester McCoy - Either Remembrance Of The Daleks or The Curse of Fenric. The first contains everything which is good about the show, while the latter is simply a scary story...and it contains a scene where Ace flashes her stocking tops!

You can't be serious with these suggestions. I wouldn't sit through episodes 2-4 of An Unearthly Child again if you paid me. Besides its only available in a three story box set.

The Mind Robber is surreal and like Enemy of the World bugger all like conventional Who.

MTDS's daughter is 8. Would you have understood Kinda at age 8? Again only available in a box set.

As for me, well a few random enjoyable stories that haven't been mentioned are -

MTDS would enjoy The Daemons seeing as its all occulty and morris men and such like.

Time Meddler (Hartnell)
The Invasion (Troughton)
Inferno (Pertwee)
Seeds of Doom (Baker)
Caves of Androzani (Davison)
Colin Baker - I'm stumped - not because they're not good, but because his stories are pretty violent for Who) Mark of the Rani?
Remembrance of the Daleks (McCoy)
Night of the Doctor (McGann)
