Uncle Terry did. He wrote the original Target novel. |

Didn't mind Meglos. Once you get over the idea of the talking cactus. Wasn't it the first story to use Scene-Sync? Supposedly cutting edge technology used by the BBC.

Writer Anthony Read has died at the age of 80. Read had a long and extensive career in writing and television, and is best known to Who fans for his work in the hugely popular "Williams era" (late Tom Baker). He took over as script editor of the series midway through season 15 and was, along with Williams himself, the primary creative force behind the massively successful Season 16, aka "The Key to Time Season", which marked the first (and arguably still the most successful) attempt to have a season-long story arc in Doctor Who, and which also introduced the much-loved companion character of Romana, the first (and only) companion to actually be of the Doctor's own race. After he left the series he contributed the script for the season 17 story The Horns of Nimon, one of the most criminally underrated and funniest stories in the history of the program. It seems that all the major behind-the-scenes creative lights of the Williams era - my favourite - have now gone - producer Graham Williams himself, and all three of his script editors, Bob Holmes, Douglas Adams and now Anthony Read. Terribly sad. RIP. |

As far as fave eras go it almost seems cliched to say this but mine has to be the Hinchcliffe years. It was the era i started watching the show and it scared me half to death. My two favourite stories from the Williams era - Horror of Fang Rock and Image of the Fendahl - both seemed to be classic Gothic Hinchcliffe rather than what would come in the next three seasons. For every great Williams story there's a clunker like Underworld, Invasion of Time and Horns of Nimon. As for The Key to Time being the best season long story arc - i actually prefer Trial of a Timelord. There's a half decent book about the Hinchcliffe era which is worth seeking out. It's long since out of print now though. Last edited by Demdike@Cult Labs; 26th November 2015 at 10:57 PM. |

You're insane. I find the Hinchcliffe era overrated, bar season 14. Season 13 has got some right drek in it (basically, everything bar Zygons and Seeds!) |
