Love that shot of The Master, Susan. So, seeing as today is Roger Delgado's birthday, which is your favourite Roger Delgado Master story? He always played the role with relish and was as charming as he was dangerous. I think my favourite Master story is The Daemons (what a surprise, eh?) but the one he seems to have a lot of fun in is The Time Monster. |

The Daemons would also be my choice (again, not much of a surprise there!) I also really liked him in Terror of the Autons and The Claws of Axos. |

Roger Delgado's untimely death was a real shame - not only because we lost a much loved actor, but also because it left the original plan for the Master's story arc unfinished Originally it was planned that he would appear in an unfilmed story entitled 'The Final Game', which was to be the last story of Jon Pertwee's era. It was to reveal that The Doctor and The Master were actually brothers, and at the end of the story, The Master was to have sacrificed himself to 'save' The Doctor, albeit The Doctor in a new body. Sadly, this never happened, and his final appearance in 'Frontier In Space' is a real anti-climax, and not the triumphant swansong the character deserved My favourite story about Roger Delgado concerns 'The Daemons'. At the end of the story, when The Master has been arrested, all the children in the village of Devils End were supposed to boo and jeer him as he was taken away... but they insisted on cheering him instead!

He just wanders off screen and is never seen again. It was a real shame.

And yet, it's actually still one of his best stories and performances next to Mind of Evil IMHO.

Just been reading about a convention in Dallas this April. Catherine Tate is making a rare appearance as well as John Barrowman, Karen Gillan and Alex Kingston. Others include Norman Reedus, Stan Lee, Tim Curry, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Mark Hamill. In this country we get the 'guy who played the fifth Stormtrooper from the left'. |
