Episode 21 Hostage Written by Allan Prior After a near fatal battle with Federation pursuit ships, all seems well on the Liberator until Travis contacts Blake from the planet X-Bar where he Has Blake's cousin Inga held hostage. After Blake goes down to X-Bar, Avon becomes increasingly worried. Blake contacts Inga's father who betrays him to Travis. Once down, Avon sends for Vila. Soon Travis and his criminal psychopaths (Crimo's) capture Blake, Avon and Vila. Utilising Vila's cowardice and need for self preservation, Travis is able to get one of his thugs onto the Liberator where Cally and Jenna deal with him. Then Travis locks up the other three without air. In a shoot-out which follows their escape, Travis wounds Avon as the Liberator crew make their getaway. Inga decides to stay with her father to help the other people of the planet, and Travis receives a surprising visitor. ................................ The opening scenes to Hostage feature the biggest attack on the Liberator yet with some pretty good sfx. This is writer Allan Prior's second scriptfor Blakes 7 and is a dramatic improvement on his first story, Horizon. The planet X-Bar looks a little like a quarry on earth. Whilst Blakes 7 and Doctor Who both frequently filmed in quarries the ones used for Blakes 7 always seem a more hostile alien enviroment than those the Doctor visits. The Crimo costumes look a lot like the ones used in Christopher Nolan's Batman films for the Character Bane |

Episode 22 Countdown Written by Terry Nation When Federation forces on Albion are attacked, Space Major Provine carries out the Federation's threat to activate a solium radiation device which will kill all life on the planet. Provine is prevented from escaping from the planet, and while the timer runs its course, Blake and his people arrive in search of the Space Major who has information about the location of Central Control. Linking up with the local rebels Avon, Blake and Vila encounter Del Grant, who has a grudge against Avon for the death of a woman named Anna. Anna was Grant's sister and Avon's lover. Though they don't find Provine immediately, they do learn that the radiation device is under a polar ice cap. Avon and Grant volunteer to teleport to the ice cap and try to disarm the device. Meanwhile, Vila races to rescue Blake from Provine, who finally tells them that Central Control is now called Star One and that the only person who knows its location is a cyber-surgeon named Docholli. With time ticking away Grant becomes trapped under melting ice rubble, can Avon deal with the bomb, or will his rivalry get in the way. ......................................... Another explosive start to an episode, which sees a Federation base under siege from rebels. The pyrotechnics look quite impressive as rooves collapse and stuntmen are thrown around for fun. Tom Chadborn who played Duggan in the classic Doctor Who story City of Death plays Del Grant. The verbal sparring between Avon and Grant is well scripted and creates some scenes of brilliant tension. Blakes quiet promise to kill Grant should anything happen to Avon was a lovely touch by Terry Nation. Leeds born actor Paul Shelley played the part of Space Major Provine brilliantly. It was refreshing to have another Federation officer as a villain in a nice change to the one dimensional Travis. As we begin to reach the climax of the second series the episodes centre around the search for Star One rather than single stand alone stories. Another really strong episode. |

I've had the write ups hanging around since the end of September when i watched the last four episodes of series 2. Its laziness that's prevented me doing any grabs. |
