All anyone was going to do with the 1st season was compare it to the film. You knew it was an uphill struggle when the first episode was the 5 minute "Benny's World of Liquor" opening sequence of the film padded out to 45 minutes.

That's what pretty much killed it for me especially as I went into the series blind and presumed it was connected to the film in name only!

Because of the obvious similarities to the film, I wasn't impressed with the series when I first saw it, but stuck with it and am glad I did – it improves as it moves away from the events in the movie.

My younger brother used to have a load of the books when we were growing up. I'd never even realised that they'd made it into a show.

My girlfriend bought my eldest lad the entire collection on DVD for his birthday in November, loved it as a kid and I still do now 30 years later
