ALL NEW SUPER FRIENDS HOUR (1977-1978) Out go Wendy, Marvin and Wonder Dog. In come the Wonder Twins Zan and Jayna and their space monkey Gleek. Each episode is split in to four adventures. The first is a team up between two of the heroes. Second is a Wonder Twins story which has a message behind it such as the dangers of hitchhiking. Third is a full Super friends adventure. Fourth is a team up with one of the Super Friends and a guest hero such as The Flash, Hawkman and Hawkgirl, The Atom and Green Lantern. At various points in the show there are brief spots of one of the heroes giving lessons on health, safety, crafts and magic tricks. |

Interesting to note that late 70's batman was still seemingly based on the 60's TV version at this point, with the same pants/utility belt get up. I do wonder if anything can be truly iconic these days when everything has such a fast turnaround. If you think about it there was a good 20 years between the TV and Burton Batman's. These days it's Spiderman of the week.

Totally agree. They reboot Spiderman every other year or so it seems.

Then again i suppose Batman started it all with the swift Keaton/Kilmer/Clooney turnaround. Interesting to note that the two swift replacements are Batman lite(ahem...shite).

Michael Gough played Alfred in all four films, Pat Hingle played Com. Gordon the same, and Chris O Donnell was Robin in two of them with two different Batman's. |

Judi Dench played M against two Bonds but the Craigs were still a reboot. I can't buy the Schumacher jokes having anything to do with the Burton movies myself. |

I get what you're saying regarding Schumacher's lighter touch (being kind here) but neither film reboots Batman for better or worse and all are classed as sequels to the first Burton film. |

I suppose i was thinking of the change of tone and actor as a soft reboot because the latter two are more akin to 60's Batman (but shitter) in my mind than the darker Burton version. Still the sheer moneymaking capabilities of these properties will i fear now result in a constant stream of new versions. I suppose that reflects different comic artist/era variations in a way but it can only end up diluting the power of the original prototypes.

As a reference i guess you could look at Dracula, Bela had presence, Lee had power, both iconic, after that there's such a high turnaround of actors that the original character has less power and impact. Most modern versions are shite. It would take a really decent film and actor to make Dracula truly chilling for the modern age.
