I watched the three episodes of the BBC's adaptation of A Christmas Carol in one evening and thought it was brilliant. I thought Guy Pierce was excellent as Ebenezer Scrooge and the supporting cast with the likes of Stephen Graham, Andy Serkis, Jason Flemyng, Charlotte Riley, Joe Alwyn and Vinette Robinson were all tremendous.

There's also been a lot of care and attention paid to the look and sound of the miniseries as it is beautifully scored and has quite exceptional cinematography, costumes, set decoration, visual effects and production design.

At times, it is almost monochrome with areas of the screen illuminated by fire looking alien to the environment – it's as if warmth doesn't belong and is somehow intruding on a hard, uncaring world. Stephen Knight, who is most famous for creating Peaky Blinders, has done a fine adaptation of Charles Dickens' famous story, though taking some liberties with the source material, and something I will happily watch again.

It really put me off this when i found out there was strong language throughout and decided not to bother with it.

"Who the **** are you? Tiny ****ing Tim?" Does not sit well with me.

The language didn't bother me at all and I actually thought the move away from typical Dickensian dialogue was an interesting choice which worked.

I quite liked the War of the Worlds series. It wasn't exactly a thrill a minute, but I found the use of the score very effective at points.

Like you though, i'm a tad concerned at what I've seen of Dracula "I might be undead, but i'm not unreasonable" - Whaa??

Yeah. I have seen that Dracula trailer. I'm worried.

I never watched any more Christmas Carol after the first episode. That was enough.

Well, I'm currently listening to the BBC "version" of The Whisperer In Darkness, and apart from the fact that it is rather drawn out (10 episodes?), the "updating" of it is infuriating. By making it "media savvy" to appeal to a newer audience, it has drained it of what makes HPL great. It's like a bad episode of Fringe

Finished this yesterday, by far one of my favourite TV shows of 2019. My cynicism about Henry Caville was completely misplaced he was terrific. Recommended
