Yeah, most BD players are not multi-region by default for DVDs or BDs.

I have a UK PS3 and it is definitely B/2 locked.

Really. I didn't know that. When i've looked at them in shops such as Richer Sounds or local dealers they have always been dvd region free.

I suppose many buy their players from Asda or Comet instead.

Richer Sounds are a different outfit altogether as they will always (well, in my experience anyway) offer to unlock players to region free when they sell them. They also sell more bespoke or hardware modded models that are usually region free considering they are catering to a specialist AV market.

Argos, Currys, Dixons, PC World, and the supermarket chains just sell off the shelf as per the manufacturer so unless it's region free by default (a rarity) you generally get a region locked player.

Why anyone with an interest in collecting would buy off the supermarket shelf beats me.

I suppose we'd better get back to topic though.
